How many years have you been working in your field?:
Describe what you do.
Drive a semi tractor trailer combination picking up and/or delivering all types of manufactured goods. Perform the driving task with safety in mind and generally have a courteous attitude for the fellow drivers who share the roadways.
Describe how you do it.
Need to know how to drive a manual transmission. Need to have full and well versed knowledge of the rules of the road and the regulations of what entails transporting goods. Be professional with all types of people one is in contact with on a daily basis. Have a customer service mindset when dealing with people. Know ones way about town and the routes that are best for driving a large vehicle and if there are restrictions or low bridges and such. So much more than can be described.
Describe why you do it.
Fulfilling a childhood dream and passion about trucking. Get to see the nation and the many sights that most people will never see in their lifetime. Build a relationship with hundreds of people that one might be in contact with as many visits to the same places happen frequently. Being known by name instead of just “another trucker” Getting to hear a big “Thank You” for helping us. Seeing the pleasure in a child’s face after they ask for the airhorn and it being pulled for them. The satisfaction of knowing that we truckers keep the US working.
What was the first step you took to become what you are now?
Had to attend a driving training school to understand the basics of backing, turning, getting the feel for the movement of the truck and trailer, becoming knowledgeable of the rules and regulations regarding driving a commercial vehicle and what laws are for driving and a whole lot more. Get the CDL learners permit then graduate to full CDL Class A license upon completion of the testing out with a DOT inspector and evaluation of your knowledge and skills.
